For those who celebrate a midwinter festival, it’s mostly over. The big dinner’s been scoffed, the fireworks have left annoying little burnt stubs everywhere, the decorations have been taken down. The first New Year resolutions have been broken.
For many of us, it’s been back to work. So this week’s story prompt is just that. What if someone goes back to their job – legal secretary, zookeeper, minion of evil, head of a multinational – and something is different? New boss. New offices. New co-workers. Or just a new coffee machine. But this change, however minor, is just the start of big changes for your protagonist…
Have a good weekend, everyone!
The Plotmedics will be in attendance at Loncon 3, the World Science Fiction Convention http://www.loncon3.org/. If you’re attending Loncon this is a great opportunity to try out one of our workshops (or two…) free of charge.
On Saturday 12:00 – 14:00, in the South Gallery Pgm Room (ExCeL) we’ll be talking about Getting Ideas.
Where do you get your ideas? And once you’ve got them, how do you turn them into a plot? This workshop explores various means to find ideas, expand on them, and use them to build stories.
On Sunday 13:00 – 15:00, South Gallery Pgm Room (ExCeL) we’ll be Creating Characters.
What is a ‘good’ character? Where do characters come from? What is a character made of? This workshop will answer these questions and give you tools to create proactive, memorable and engaging characters.
Now there are going to be thousands of people at Loncon, and sadly we won’t have room for them all, so if you’d like to attend you need to sign up in advance at the info desk.
Hope to see you there!
